Working Overtime is my second artwork using Unreal Engine. I used Unreal Engine 5 EA and Lumen to create beautiful bounce lighting. I’ve tried for a long time to figure out how to get nice looking lighting with CPU and GPU lightmass but failed. Somehow the workflow of tweaking a great number of settings, adjusting light sources and bake times combines and makes it really hard to determine what natural lighting should look like. It’s also a very time consuming process.
Lumen is great because we don’t need any bakes anymore. However, there is more noise and it’s also not as performant as baked lighting (obviously).
This artwork shows an employee working overtime at the factory. Everybody else has already gone home and he’s the only one pulling an allnighter. I tried to create a harmonious color composition with yellow/orange tones and blue for the main focal point.
